Our Christmas party was lots of fun!!! We made reindeer food, estimated how many Christmas candies were in a jar, made a nativity scene with stickers, and threw snowballs through a wreath. The snacks were yummy too. We especially liked the Christmas cupcakes! Thanks again to Amy Connally for planning the party and to all of our wonderful parent volunteers. We couldn't do it without you. We also enjoyed a surprise dessert this week. Davidson's daddy brought a yummy dessert from McDonald's on Thursday. What a nice treat. Thanks Joel! I hope that each of you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have fun and I'll see you in January.

Happy Birthday Jesus!
J is for Jesus! We celebrated Jesus' birthday this week as we learned about the letter J. Sage Dining even made us a birthday cake for Jesus. You will see in our slide show some of the Christmas crafts we've been making as well as some of our Christmas math activities. We tasted candy canes this week and made a graph showing who liked them and who did not. We also put numbered Christmas shapes in order from 1 to 20. There were three teams, and we made it a race. I think the Christmas tree team won. It was lots of fun! On Wednesday we got to watch the K5 classes perform their Christmas play. It was great! I'm looking forward to one more week of Christmas fun and learning before the break!

Christmas Fun
We've had so much fun this week incorporating Christmas in with our learning activities. We made patterns on peppermint sticks, practiced beginning sounds, putting letters in ABC order, and rhyming words using gingerbread men. These are only a few of the activities we've enjoyed this week. You will see in our slide show that we made volcanoes for the letter V. We made lava from corn syrup and food coloring. It was fun to squeeze it onto the paper volcanoes that we made. We also watched a volcano erupt using baking soda and vinegar. Hopefully this will help them remember letter V and its sound. We made cinnamon ornaments this week too. They made our classroom smell good and they look great on our Christmas tree! Our K4 class enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Shelley. She read a great book to us called Someday. We love Mrs. Shelley! The Ipads and Ipods are also a big hit in our class. We have been using them daily for letter writing practice, counting, and much more! Looking forward to another fun week of learning. Please note some important dates and reminders below.

Thanksgiving fun
What a fun week! We finished our Indian shirts, headbands, and necklaces. On Friday we dressed as Indians and sang our Thanksgiving songs for our friends in K5. I hope everyone was able to see the video on my last post. They were precious! As you will see in our pictures, we continued to practice graphing this week as well as worked on the letters U and J. You will also see us having fun in our learning centers around the classroom. The favorite activity this week, however, was using the Ipads. We were able to work on letter tracing, counting, and much more. Now that we have access to the Ipads, we will be incorporating them into our learning each week. We are thrilled to have them!!! When we return to school we will begin the Christmas season with a "Gingerbread and Candy Cane" unit. Many of our math, phonics, and art activities will involve gingerbread men and candy canes. It should be lots of fun! I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We are so blessed! Enjoy your week!

"C" is for Cupcakes
We are having a great time learning about the Pilgrims, Indians, and the Mayflower. We've been talking about the first Thanksgiving and about being thankful. Our class made Pilgrims and Indians that you will see in this week's pictures. We also "tea dyed" t-shirts to prepare to make Indian shirts next week. You will also see in our pictures that we had fun learning about the letter "C" with cupcakes. We painted cupcakes with "puffy pink paint". We also made cupcakes in our classroom with Mrs. Loard's cupcake maker. It was fun to decorate them with frosting and sprinkles. They were delicious! Our K4 class took advantage of the nice weather this week and practiced writing Y and Z outdoors with side walk chalk. We also practiced sorting and graphing with gummy bears. We also had fun with estimating and graphing this week. Look for the pictures of our Skittles graphing...Yum! You will see our visitors from Operation Christmas Child too. This week our K4 class "buddied up" with Mrs. Jeffcoat's second graders. They read stories to us. It was great! I think they enjoyed it just as much as we did. We plan to do this regularly with Mrs. Jeffcoat's second graders. We've had more fun with apples this week. We have also enjoyed making many different kinds of patterns. Bubba Bear went home with one of our students for the first time this weekend. Everyone will eventually get a turn to bring Bubba Bear home for the weekend. I will send him in his special bag along with our Bubba Bear scrapbook. Please record all the things that your family does with him...pictures are great!

Field Trip and More!
What a busy week! We began our week with a field trip to the fire station and to Chappy's Deli. The fire fighters taught us many safety tips and let us explore througout the station. We especially enjoyed the fire trucks! Chappy's was great too. We were able to tour the kitchen and the big walk - in freezer. We also enjoyed a delicious Chappy's meal. Thanks again to those of you who drove and chaperoned for our field trip. We couldn't do it without you! Take a look at the pictures to see a few of the other activities we enjoyed in our class this week. We practiced "building" letters with our magnetic letter pieces as well as with playdough. Other activities you will see are fun with numbers, cutting practice, and exploring letters and sounds on the computer. Afternoon center time is fun too. A class favorite is "Mr. Potato Head". Next week we will review the letters and numbers we've learned and begin a unit on apples. Ask your child to tell you all about it each day. Please notice the "Alphafriends" take home books your child is bringing home. There is one for each letter we learn.
